Senate Leader Berger Appoints Education Committee Leadership

Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) recently announced education committee leadership appointments for the 2025-2026 legislative biennium.
 
The Senate Education/Higher Education Committee will be co-chaired by returning chair Senator Michael V. Lee (R-New Hanover) and newly appointed chairs Senator Kevin Corbin (R-Macon) and Senator Brad Overcash (R-Gaston). Leadership for the Appropriations on Education/Higher Education Committee will include Senator Paul Newton (R-Cabarrus), Senator Kevin Corbin (R-Macon), and Senator Brad Overcash (R-Gaston). These senators will play a pivotal role in shaping education legislation in the Senate.
 
Committee appointments for the House are expected to be announced soon by the newly elected Speaker of the House Destin Hall (R-Caldwell). The official start date for the North Carolina 2025 long session is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29, following the ceremonial kickoff of the session that occurred Jan. 8.
