New House Speaker Names Committee Chairs For 2025-26 Session

New House Speaker Destin Hall, R-Caldwell, on Wednesday announced a slate of committee chairs who will lead the chamber’s work on legislation for the 2025-2026 biennium.

Tapped to co-chair both the House Education K-12 Committee and the House Appropriations Committee on Education are Reps. Brian Biggs, R-Randolph; Tricia Cotham, R-Mecklenburg; and David Willis, R-Union.

Co-Chairs of other key House committees that will affect the funding and policy legislation under consideration for the state’s public schools in 2025 and 2026 include the following:

Appropriations
  • Senior Chair: Rep. Donny Lambeth, R-Forsyth
  • Senior Chair: Rep. Dean Arp, R-Union
  • Senior Chair: Rep. Kyle Hall, R-Stokes
  • Senior Chair: Rep. Larry Strickland , R-Johnston
  • Chair: Rep Erin Paré, R-Wake
  • Chair: Rep. Hugh Blackwell, R-Burke
  • Chair: Rep. William Brisson, R-Bladen
Emergency Management and Disaster Recovery
  • Chair: Rep. Dudley Greene, R-McDowell
  • Chair: Rep. Mark Pless, R-Haywood
Pensions and Retirement
  • Chair: Rep. Carson Smith, R-Pender

Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House

The House Speaker is expected to name the committee vice-chairs and other members after the current long session reconvenes on Jan. 29.
