Share Thoughts And Concerns About Publishing Central Office Compensation

HB 56 will require each local board of education to publish and maintain on their website no later than August 15, 2025, (and annually thereafter) central office total compensation from all funding sources.
While salary information is public record now, there is no requirement that it be published and maintained on school district websites. This bill expands what is required to be disclosed regarding compensation and would include all bonuses, stipends, and reimbursements.
While no school leaders are against transparency, this bill raises the following questions:
- Why should central office employees be singled out for salary and compensation disclosure when other state-funded personnel are not?
- What time and effort will be required to share and maintain the compensation information on school websites?
- Could compensation disclosure on local websites lead to conflicts between employees about salary differences?
